Rebirthing breathwork is an ancient Kriya Yoga technique which was rediscovered by Leonard Orr in the 1970s. Using an increased flow of energetic breath and focusing on the quality of the breath we can access the roots of deeply buried traumas and process them in a way which releases us from their energetic reverberations. Many people who experience it are surprised at quite how powerful the process can be. The effects may include visions and cathartic releases.
Every stored traumatic energy requires a shift in the breath to withhold it from being expressed in the moment. Every breath contains a record or all of the deviations caused by withheld emotion. When we use this technique to breathe properly there are many ways in which the body resists allowing these trapped bubbles of trauma to release, which is why having an experienced practitioner is essential as a coach in these moments. It is our experience that it takes around 10 sessions to learn this technique well enough to be able to do it on your own.
Water Rebirthing is a technique for those people who have learned the basic breathing technique and who want to take it deeper. This is done curled up in foetal position, immersed in warm water in the Dark with breathing apparatus to breathe through a tube whilst totally immersed. These conditions mimic the womb. Whilst the breather is immersed it isn’t possible to hear the facilitator, so the technique must be mastered first before attempting this. Rebirthing can take people into deep processes in which they aren’t aware of their surroundings, and since they are immersed in water this might be dangerous so it is essential that there is an experienced practitioner present at all times throughout the process.
